NHATS Early Results Workshop

Dates: April 25 & 26, 2013

The National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS) is a new national study of functioning in later life (see http://www.nhats.org/). NHATS provides a basis for understanding trends and trajectories in late-life functioning, how these differ for various population subgroups, and the economic and social consequences of aging and disability for individuals, families, and society. With support from the National Institute on Aging, an NHATS Early Results Workshop is planned as a forum for investigators from diverse research perspectives to present findings from the NHATS Round 1 Public Use File.

Workshop Format

The workshop will be held over 1 1/2 days and participants are expected to attend the entire workshop. We anticipate 3 sessions of about 4 papers and a discussant.

Topics of Interest

We are interested in studies that make creative use of the data to address either methodological or substantive issues. Examples of topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Technology and mobility
  • Duration of disability
  • Comparison of NHATS measures of disability or capacity with those from other studies
  • Transportation and driving
  • Patterns of assistance with activities
  • The residential care population
  • Social networks of older adults and disability
  • Disability and participation in valued activities
