Welcome Study Participants!

If you have reached this page, it is probably because you, or someone you know, are taking part in the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS). On this site, we have provided links to information about the study, including the National Institute on Aging, which is the sponsor of the study, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, which is conducting the study with Westat. We have provided frequently asked questions (FAQ) and a brief description of the goals of the study. We hope you will find these links interesting and informative.

As the study population ages, NHATS is providing important information for understanding trends in late-life functioning, how these differ for various population subgroups, and the economic and social consequences of aging for individuals, families, and society.

As a follow up to the NHATS study, we also speak with people who help or have helped older family members and friends with their daily activities. This is an important part of the study called the National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). NSOC was conducted concurrently with NHATS in 2011, 2015, and 2017. We are currently testing an online version of NSOC for 2020.

Interviewing begins in the spring of each year and continues through late fall.
